I’m Laurel Harple, a US native, currently based in Amsterdam and living between the Netherlands and the UK for the past 13 years. After studying at Central Saint Martins and London College of Fashion, I was told at university that design wasn’t for me - I should focus on the business and marketing side. So I did. I’ve now worked the past 9 years for a variety of fashion and lifestyle brands focusing on digital storytelling and social media.
After seeing many facets of the industry, both good and bad, my heart still yearned to create. It took a few years to gather up the courage, but now I’m here. Pina Studio is a concept to share what I’ve learned - and am still learning - about sustainability and ethical practices in fashion. To shop sustainably is to buy recycled or to buy new with intention: something you’ll love and wear for years. Slow fashion for progression.
The brand shares the name of my great grandmother - Pina Lee. Family has and always will be a major pillar in my life - I come from a history of tailors, manufacturers, engineers, innovators. I’m proud of my own provenance, not to mention the incredible women who’ve shaped me in my life. Each piece is individually named after a woman in my family.
